This year my family's paths have strayed from the usual sit down feast of thanks. We won't be holding hands and praying over a turkey feast, but the appreciation for life and each other will remain. My parents, my brother and his wife, my grandmother and Mr. Jimmy, and my wife and kid will be out in different parts of the globe for various reasons. Knowing this was in the cards, my mother rounded up the troops and created an early Thanksgiving gathering culminating in a delightful non-traditional Alabama sunset dinner. It's a blessing to have those who love you close, but even more important is to have them close in your heart.
