I spent 40 minutes in the French Quarter and figured that I would challenge myself to make an interesting video out of the resulting footage. I've been shooting video with the Nikon D7000 dslr for about a month now, and I'm quite happy with the results.
Here is all the technical stuff. It was all shot on the Nikon D7000 dslr on a monopod with a fluid head for stability. I chose the Nikon 60mm f/2.8 macro lens because it is a good portrait lens, yet wide enough to capture an entire scene. A fast 50mm would have work just as well. I created a low contrast, unsharp picture control in the camera so that I would have more latitude (usable camera information) for color grading in post. I edited the H.264 video in Sony Vegas Pro 10 and graded the color with magic bullet looks. In magic bullet I added a warming filter, s curve, and a bit of film grain. To finish off the footage I applied a modest amount of sharpening and a slight touch of the unsharp filter.
